My name is Anna Slepova. I am originally from Russia. This is my first year of teaching Spanish at John Adams Academy. I have around 18 years of teaching various languages at different educational settings. Spanish is my fifth language and I am very happy to share my passion for learning foreign languages and for the Spanish culture with the JAA scholars and mentors. I have a huge appreciation for the classical education as I myself received it in the Linguistic Gymnasium #13 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. There we studied several foreign languages: English, French, and Latin, as well as other humanistic disciplines, such as: History, Law, Philosophy, Political Sciences, Literature etc. I have two master degrees in teaching foreign languages, from the Linguistic University of Nizhny Novgorod and from the University of Southern Mississippi. My areas of specialties are Philology, Linguistics, Literature, English as a second language, Russian, Latin, and Spanish.
I stayed with the University of Southern Mississippi for 8 years where I was a graduate assistant of Spanish and Latin, and then an adjunct instructor of Spanish and Russian. I also worked in Middle and High Schools teaching Spanish.
My journey as a learner never stops. I am excited to constantly strive for excellence, for acquiring and developing new skills, and for growing as a professional. I am a member of ACTFL and FLTEACH. I attend national conferences and workshops for teaching foreign languages. I don’t forget to travel around the world and learn more about different cultures and places.
I am also a graduate of the Leadership class 2013 of Jackson County, MS. I worked with various nonprofit organizations and raised funds for the United Way, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Heart Association, Bacot/McCarty Foundation etc. I organized city cultural festivities and celebrations, Veteran’s Day Parades and Programs.
I have a lot of hobbies. I enjoy outdoor activities, I play sports, I travel, and I absolutely treasure time with my family. Family is everything to me, it is my ground, my foundation, and ultimate joy.
